The topic of climate protection is being heard by more and more companies, the district administrator noted. He praised the companies that are helping the district to become more climate-friendly and whose commitment is a perfect fit for a liveable, economically healthy and sustainable district. "Thank you for setting a good example and motivating other companies to follow suit," said Reisinger.
One positive example is Carola Heindl from the Staisch hairdressing salon in Hahnbach, which is participating in the Bavarian Environment + Climate Pact for the third time in a row. For example, the hairdressing salon uses water-saving systems technology, operates a solar system on the roof and completely dispenses with plastic bags; Carola Heindl's shop also offers reusable systems and refill packs.
Three years ago, Holzbau Steger from Sulzbach-Rosenberg was included in the list of participants in the Bavarian Environment + Climate Pact for the first time. Now the environmentally friendly commitment of Managing Director Christian Steger has been certified once again. Among other things, the master carpenter's company provides company bicycles for employees and has also installed a charging station for electric vehicles. In addition to the refurbishment of the company building envelope from an energy point of view, the company also uses 100 per cent green electricity and operates a photovoltaic system.
Daniel Weidner from Förster Kunststofftechnik GmbH in Hahnbach was the last of the group to receive the new certificate from the district administrator. The company has already been honoured by Environment Minister Thorsten Glauber with the gold certificate, which participants in the Bavarian Environment + Climate Pact receive after five consecutive years of participation. The company had already had its environmental management system certified in accordance with EMAS in 2002. Since then, the company's CO2 emissions have been continuously reduced.
Six companies in the Amberg-Sulzbach district are currently participating in the Bavarian Environment + Climate Pact. Participation can be extended every three years with a further environmental achievement. With each renewal, companies and businesses document their ongoing commitment to corporate environmental protection.
The environmental pact has existed since 1995
The Bavarian Environmental Pact was first adopted in 1995 with the idea of motivating companies, entrepreneurs and state institutions to implement corporate environmental protection above and beyond the legal requirements.
The Bavarian Environmental + Climate Pact is based on an agreement between the Bavarian state government and the Bavarian economy. The clear aim of this environmental initiative is to provide new impetus for climate protection and to make Bavaria more sustainable. In the Bavarian Environment + Climate Pact, the Bavarian state government and the Bavarian economy declare their shared conviction that the natural foundations of life can be better protected with the help of voluntary and reliable co-operation between the state and the economy than with laws and regulations alone.
EMAS stands for Eco-Management and Audit Scheme. Companies and other organisations that participate in EMAS undertake to comply with all relevant environmental legislation and to organise a process of continuous improvement of their own environmental performance.
